Ball

Balls are made of either rubber or synthetic material. Some skills include throwing, bouncing and rolling. Balls are fun to use and you can do many different things with them.

Clubs

Clubs are made of wood or plastic. Some things that gymnasts do with clubs include hand circles, throws, mills and flicks. Clubs are usually harder to use than some apparatus because they're quite heavy and there are two of them.

Hoop

The hoop is made of plastic or wood. Gymnasts throw, spin, flick and roll it. Hoops can be thrown and caught in many ways. You can tape the hoop in many different patterns and colours.

Rope

The length of the rope depends on how tall the gymnast it is. Some things that gymnasts do with the rope includes releases, throws, rotations, figure-eights and sails.

Ribbon

A ribbon is a long thin piece of material attached to a stick. It can be dyed or you can colour it yourself. Some things you do with the ribbon are throws, tosses, curls, snakes and circles. This can be a difficult apparatus because it can get knots or you could get tanged in it.

Freehand

Freehand is where you don't use an apparatus. It contains more dance and gymnastic skills as you don't have anything to throw, roll, rotate or flick. When you do it in a group it is known as aesthetic group.

Group

Groups are usually made up of four or five people. Some groups use two different types of apparatus and some only use one. Some things include collaborations and exchanges as well as the usual skills, handlings and dance steps.
